Buddhists believed in peace

Unlike civilizations and cultures that have thrived on aggression and conquest, the Buddhists have always believed in peace and tranquility. The tranquility of Buddhism, which was founded in India in the fourth century BC, has attracted innumerable followers down the ages across Sri Lanka, South-East Asia, China, Korea and Japan. Buddhism has many more followers in these countries today than in the country of its origin.

Many awe-inspiring sculptures, pictures, temples and shrines, created by admirers and followers of Gautama Buddha since his death are found not only in all of East and South-East Asia in which Buddha and his followers preached but also in parts of Afghanistan. These sculptures, pictures, temples and shrines are manifestations of the joy in the hearts of Buddhists that has found its outlet in artistic creation.
